Orientalists and folklorists discussed the possibilities of international cooperation

In the beginning of January the Department for Estonian and Comparative Folklore together with the Centre for Oriental Studies were glad to host visiting researchers Olesia Naumovska (Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Ukraine) and Nataliia Naumovska (University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, USA). 

During the research visit we discussed current research topics and study curriculums in the departments and Centre and outlined a possible further cooperation between researchers and universities. The Department for Estonian and Comparative Folklore and the Centre for Oriental Studies wish all the best to our visiting colleagues and look forward to a further cooperation! 

Associate Prof. Olesia Naumovska is the Head of the Department of Folklore Studies in Kyiv, and her main research focus concerns Ukrainian fairy tales and beliefs with an emphasis on cultural specifics of personage system. Nataliia Naumovska is a PhD student at the Department of Slavic Languages and Literature, and Comparative and World Literature with a specialization in Anthropology. Her main focus is cultural expansion and mythology of “one nation” imposed by imperialism through language and surnames.
